about

In this, the 50th year of Doctor Who it seems appropriate to celebrate the amazing work done on this program to allow experimental music a way into the mainstream.

Never was that more apparent than in Malcolm Clarke's soundtrack to "The Sea Devils"

I see devils is an attempt to recreate the sounds of the early 70s Radiophonic Workshop, specifically Clarke's soundtrack using techniques that would have been available at the time.

Myself and Nik were watching "The Sea Devils" and he said, "Hey, Keef, you should do some stuff like this". So using Arturia's Modular V, PSP's springbox for reverb and very little else except some compression I then created this.

The sequencing itself was an interesting challenge because I din't want to use modern methods as it wouldn't sound right so everything is either played (sorry I'm a terrible keyboard player) or sequenced using only the internal sequencer of the modular. Any parameter tweaking is done Live, as it would be with the modular.

As i don't know how many tracks Malcolm would have had access to I aimed for everything to be less than 8 audio tracks.
